Mossy floors, cobwebs, a pot noodle, a crochet Jesus and the voice of an angel. Who knows what you will find in an abandoned church.
An abandoned Medieval church sits on the border of four counties, Stretton en la Field borders Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, and Warwickshire. It is primarily recognized as being in Leicestershire and historically part of Derbyshire. Now under the caring wing of the Churches Conservation Trust, since 1986. This is one that the Victorians didn’t get their health and safety tidying mitts on too much. Most of the structure is 14th and 15th Century but some of it dates back to the 12th Century. There are original 16th Century roof timbers and Georgian box pews. If you look at the leaflet you will see the church at it’s polished best, but I am going to show you the glory of moss and cobwebs instead. As a treat, a demonstration of the acoustics. The whole church had a shiver of delight to find it’s stones holding the sound of song again.

Enjoy some spontaneous singing to bring a moment of joy back to this beautiful old church.

Thanks for reading. I hope you managed to spot crochet Jesus?
Ever onwards with courage.
